A modern parent's checklist

NICE TO HAVE

We found these items to be incredibly helpful, although depending on your preferences, you may be able to do without them.

Hooded Towels

Hooded towels are a staple of baby bathtime. The hood helps to dry off baby's hair and keep baby warm after bath time is over.

Bath Tub

You can wash a newborn in a kitchen sink, depending on your sink. This tub, however, has a long shelf life. You can wash a newborn in the mesh liner, larger infants in the tub, and even smaller toddlers after taking out the inserts.

Bath Thermometer

A bath thermometer is not strictly necessary but can be helpful to make sure the water is the right temperature. This turtlemeter doubles as a fun bath toy.

Rocking Chair

Babies love rocking or swinging motions. A rocking chair can help you put your baby to sleep in comfort. We found this Crate and Barrel chair to be very comfortable.

Swing

The Mamaroo can swing your baby five different ways and provide soothing white noise.

Toys

Babies are born with blurry black and white vision. Highly contrasting patterns help because newborns can see them more easily. Your baby will be mesmerized by these toys. The shape set also makes rattling noises.

Pillow

A nursing pillow can help suport your baby while breastfeeding. The Boppy pillow provides additional functionality. You can lay your baby on the pillow for playtime. Being able to look around offers baby more entertainment than laying on the floor or crib.
